On April 2, the United States announced that it will impose "reciprocal tariffs" on all trading partners including China. China resolutely opposes this and will take necessary measures to firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.

The US decision to impose additional tariffs disregards the balance of interests achieved through years of multilateral trade negotiations, and ignores the fact that the US has long reaped huge benefits from international trade. The so-called “reciprocal tariffs” announced by the US are based on subjective and unilateral assessments, which gravely violate WTO rules and damage the rules-based multilateral trading system as well as the legitimate rights and interests of the relevant parties. This is a typical unilateral bullying practice.

There are no winners in trade wars, and protectionism leads nowhere. China urges the US to immediately cancel its unilateral tariff measures and resolve differences with its trading partners through dialogue at an equal footing.
