Ambassador Cong Peiwu Attends "China Melody: New Year Concert 2020" in Ottawa

On the evening of January 19, the "China Melody: New Year Concert 2020" in Ottawa was held at the Canada's National Arts Center. Cong Peiwu, Chinese Ambassador to Canada, Paul Thoppil, Assistant Deputy Minister at Global Affairs Canada, Christopher Deacon, President of Canada's National Arts Center, Arna Einarsdóttir, Managing Director of Canada's National Arts Centre Orchestra, and representatives of Canadian government departments, diplomatic envoys to Canada, representative of international cultural institutions, Chinese and foreign journalists, and more than one thousand local audience enjoyed the concert.

At the concert, China's Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, together with the famous Chinese pianist Zhang Haochen and other artists, performed Chinese and foreign classics such as Dance of the Golden Snake, Horse Racing, Hundreds Of Birds Worshipping the Phoenix, My Motherland and Andante Spianato and Grande Polonaise Brillante, winning rounds of applause from the audience.

Prior to the performance, Ambassador Cong hosted a reception at the National Arts Center for Canadian celebrities and delivered a warm speech. Ambassador Cong said that, we will usher in the Chinese New Year in another week. The Spring Festival is not only the most important traditional festival in China, but a joyous festival that people celebrate all over the world because of its Chinese cultural characteristics and the concept of reunion and harmony. Music is the common language of mankind, and it has built an important bridge for enhancing understanding and deepening friendship between peoples of all countries in the world. Shenzhen, a flagship city of China's reform and opening up, has developed from a small fishing village 40 years ago into a modern international metropolis. The Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra has also grown into one of China's most influential symphony orchestras. It is believed that through this performance in Canada, the understanding and friendship between the two peoples will be enhanced.

The guests were impressed by the superb artistic level displayed by the orchestra, and believed that the performance was a cultural feast that fully reflected the charm of Chinese culture.
