Q: On October 31, Canada presented a Xinjiang-related joint statement at the Third Committee of the 77th Session of the UN General Assembly. How do you comment?

A: On October 31, Canada led in making an anti-China joint statement at the Third Committee of the 77th Session of the UN General Assembly on the agenda item of Elimination of Racism, which made erroneous remarks on China’s human rights condition in Xinjiang by citing the so-called assessment released by the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), and grossly interfered in China’s internal affairs. The Chinese side expresses its strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to it.

The assessment was orchestrated and produced by the US and some Western forces for political purposes and was a self-staged political farce. The assessment was based on lies, completely illegal, null and void and had zero credibility. Canada and a few other western countries attempted to use the assessment to throw mud at China, destabilize Xinjiang, and hold back China’s development, which cannot be more far-fetched. Xinjiang has never been more prosperous than it is now. It has enjoyed sustained economic growth, social harmony and stability, better living standards, cultures thriving like never before, and freedom of religious beliefs and religious harmony. Over the past six decades, the Uyghur population in Xinjiang has surged from 2.2 million to around 12 million, with life expectancy across Xinjiang rising from 30 years to 74.7 years. In the Xinjiang region, there is a mosque for every 530 Muslims. These facts are undeniable and those accusations made by Canada are totally nonsense.

With a deplorable human rights record, the credits of Canada, the US and some other western countries have long been bankrupt. Canada has a long history of systematic racial discrimination, genocide against indigenous people and other serious human rights violations. In recent years, thousands of unmarked graves of indigenous children have been discovered all over Canada, and some indigenous children who were tortured to death were less than three years old. These outrageous crimes cannot be covered up by the establishment of the so-called “Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada”. Has Canada disclosed the truth of its own serious human rights violations? Has real reconciliation been achieved in Canada? Canada is grievously sinful. We urge the Canadian side to stop hypocritical and preposterous performance and focus on correcting their own mistakes on human rights violations.

China’s internal affairs brook no interference, China’s reputation brooks no vilification, and China’s interests brook no infringement. Facts once again prove that those who attempt to use Xinjiang-related issues to denigrate China will only end up in a disgraceful self-defeat. The Chinese side urges the Canadian side to stop political manipulation over Xinjiang-related issues so as not to go further down the wrong path.
