The Silk Princess is selected from records in Xuanzang's Western Regions Records of the Tang Dynasty: Mashe Sangharama and the Introduction of Silkworm Eggs to Kustana (today's Hotan Region of Xinjiang).

Based on a Tang Dynasty wood print "The Silk Princess" excavated in Dandanulike, the drama tells a beautiful love story of Li Ninger, a princess of the Tang Dynasty, and a Prince of Khotan. They spread mulberry and silk skills to the Western Regions.
