On September 25, the Chinese Embassy in Canada hosted a reception celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC). Around 500 guests from the Canadian government, the parliament and all walks of life, including the Honourable Senator Paul Massicotte, Yuen Pau Woo, Jean-Guy Dagenais, the Honourable Former Senator Victor Oh, Member of Parliament Mr. Majid Jowhari, Mr. Paul Chiang, Mr. Chandra Arya and Ms. Niki Ashton, Assistant Deputy Minister of Global Affairs Canada Weldon Epp, Assistant Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Kathleen Donohue, Canadian Ambassador to China Her Excellency Jennifer May, Former Vice Chief of the Defence Staff Lieutenant General Denis Rouleau, and foreign envoys as well as representatives from Chinese enterprises, local Chinese communities and Chinese overseas students attended the event.
The reception first featured a video clip titled "The PRC: My Story," introducing the all-around achievements of the PRC over 75 years and her image in Canadian eyes. His Excellency Wang Di, Chinese Ambassador to Canada, highlighted the spirit of the 3rd Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and emphasized China's willingness to deepen exchanges and cooperation with the Canadian side in various areas with a positive, pragmatic and constructive attitude, to welcome the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the strategic partnership next year.
In his speech, the Honourable Former Senator Victor Oh spoke highly of China's development and achievements, referring to China as "a country with a bright future" and emphasizing the long history of China-Canada friendship. He pointed out that with mutual respect and understanding, the two countries will move forward to building a closer and more cooperative relationship.
In a warm and friendly atmosphere, the guests watched a thematic photo exhibition and brilliant cultural performances, highly appreciating China's development and achievements while speaking positively about China-Canada relations.
