On October 31, Chinese Ambassador to Canada H.E. Wang Di attended the luncheon held by Montreal Council on Foreign Relations and delivered a keynote speech titled China-Canada Relations: Benefiting the Two Peoples. Over 250 participants from the business and academic communities, media and diplomatic missions attended the event.
Ambassador Wang gave a comprehensive briefing on the outcomes of the Third Plenary Session of the Twentieth Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the current economic situation in China and the recent package of incremental policies introduced by the Chinese government. He stressed that China further deepening reform and advancing Chinese-style modernization will bring new opportunities for the development of Canada and other countries. Ambassador Wang pointed out that China and Canada have had fruitful cooperation which has brought tangible benefits to the people on both sides. Next year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the 20th anniversary of their strategic partnership. China is ready to work with Canada to build a healthy and stable bilateral relationship in the spirit of right perception, mutual respect, seeking common ground while reserving differences, and mutually beneficial cooperation, to better benefit the two peoples and the world.
The participants spoke positively of Canada-China relations and expressed their hope for stronger trade cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
