Chinese Ambassador to Canada H.E. Wang Di attended Chinese New Year Celebrations Held by the Chinese Community in Toronto

On February 7-8, 2025, Chinese Ambassador to Canada H.E. Wang Di visited Toronto and attended the Chinese New Year celebrations held by the local Chinese community. Ambassador Wang had friendly exchanges with Senator Yuen Pau Woo, Member of Parliament Paul Chiang, former Senators Victor Oh and Vivienne Poy, Member of Provincial Parliament of Ontario Daisy Wai, Mayor of Markham Frank Scarpitti, Mayor of Oakville Rob Burton, Mayor of Prince George, B.C. Simon Yu, former Canadian Ambassador to China John McCallum, and Executive Director & COO of Canada-China Business Council Bijan Ahmadi. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr. Luo Weidong, Chinese Consul General in Toronto, in the above activities.

Ambassador Wang extended Chinese New Year greetings and blessings to the overseas Chinese and friends from all walks of life in Toronto. He highly commended the important contributions by the Chinese community to promoting the China-Canada friendship, encouraged them to continue to support better China-Canada relations, and emphasized that the Chinese Embassy and Consulates in Canada will continue to firmly safeguard the lawful and legitimate rights and interests of Chinese nationals in Canada, and strengthen communication with the overseas Chinese in Canada.

Ambassador Wang pointed out that China and Canada have a long history of interaction and profound traditional friendship. The two countries have extensive common interests and complementary advantages, with broad prospects for cooperation. China has always regarded Canada as a friend and partner. It is hoped that the Canadian side will work with China to seize the opportunity of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the 20th anniversary of the strategic partnership this year to deepen practical cooperation in various fields on the basis of correct perception of each other, mutual respect, seeking common ground while reserving differences, and mutually beneficial cooperation. Both sides should work together to promote stable and sustained development of China-Canada relations, which will bring greater benefits to the people of the two countries and inject positive energy into the prosperity and stability of the world and the region.

The Chinese community said that they will continue to follow and support the development of their country of origin, play a better role as a bridge to promote exchanges and cooperation between China and Canada, and look forward to the continued stable and positive development of China-Canada relations.

The Canadian participants spoke positively of the Canada-China relationship, indicating that the friendship between Canada and China has a long history and a strong foundation, and that maintaining and growing the relationship well is in the common interests of the two countries and peoples. The two sides should strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the fields of business and trade, people-to-people connections, inter-province/city cooperation and so on, so as to promote the continuous development of the bilateral relations and bring more benefits to the people of the two countries. The Canadian participants highly appreciate the important role of the Chinese community in promoting the development of the local multi-cultural society and will continue to support the development of the Chinese community.
