Question from the media: On March 6, Global Affairs Canada and Communications Security Establishment Canada released a statement and a report respectively, accusing China of using artificial intelligence to create false information and conduct cyber attacks against targets in Canada and interfere in Canada’s democracy and election processes. What is China’s response to that?
Response: The Chinese side firmly opposes and will never accept the unjustified smears and attacks by the Canadian side based on false information without any factual basis.
As one of the main victims of cyber attacks, China has always resolutely opposed and combated all forms of cyber attacks in accordance with the law, and is firmly committed to safeguarding cyber security. China has taken the initiative to put forward the Global AI Governance Initiative, and unequivocally opposes using one’s AI technological advantage to manipulate public opinion, disseminate false information, interfere in the internal affairs, social systems and public order of other countries, and jeopardize other countries’ sovereignty.
China has always upheld the principle of non-interference in internal affairs, and has never interfered in the internal affairs of Canada, nor is it interested in doing so at all. The accusation of “interference in internal affairs” can never be levied against China. On the other hand, China firmly opposes the Canadian side using Taiwan, Xinjiang, Xizang and Hong Kong issues to interfere in China’s internal affairs.
China urges the Canadian side to abandon its ideological bias, and immediately stop its political manipulation, megaphone diplomacy, and groundless attacks and smears against China, so as to avoid creating obstacles to the development of China-Canada relations.
