On May 23, 2025, Chinese Ambassador to Canada H.E. Wang Di met with Keewatin Tribal Council Grand Chief Mr. Walter Wastesicoot from Manitoba.

Ambassador Wang stressed that China always attaches importance to developing friendly relations with all sectors of Manitoba, including First Nations communities, and supports strengthening exchanges and cooperation with them in various fields to help with local economic and social development for the benefit of the people on both sides. He expressed hope that the Canadian side will provide a fair, non-discriminatory and predictable business environment for Chinese enterprises to invest and conduct business in Canada.

Grand Chief Wastesicoot highlighted that the First Nations communities in northern Manitoba attache importance to the relations with China and are willing to explore cooperation with the Chinese side in areas such as infrastructure building, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
