From June 20 to 21, 2025, the Panda Cup Challenge named by the Chinese Embassy in Canada made its debut at the annual Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival with full success.

In his remarks at the opening ceremony of the Festival, H. E. Wang Di, Chinese Ambassador to Canada, highlighted that dragon boat races originated in China and embody the spirit of persistent efforts for progress and teamwork. Noting that this year marks the 55th anniversary of China-Canada diplomatic relations and the 20th anniversary of China-Canada Strategic Partnership, Ambassador Wang expressed his hope that both countries will carry forward the dragon boat spirit by strengthening bilateral cooperation and exchanges to ensure sound and stable developments of China-Canada relations. He encouraged more Canadians to discover China through dragon boat races and deepen their understanding of the extensive and profound Chinese culture.

The Panda Cup Challenge featured eight teams, manned separately by the Embassy staff, members of the diplomatic corps, Chinese overseas students, Chinese-funded company personnel and four local Chinese communities. Team OCCSC who sealed the victory with outstanding performance won the Trophy. The Embassy also set up an on-site Chinese culture booth, where exquisite Chinese tourism photos and cultural products attracted a large number of local residents for appreciation and exchanges.
