Dear friends,

First of all, I would like to thank all of you for taking the trouble to come on this cold rainy day to our National Day Reception to celebrate the 69th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Although the weather is not good, your presence has brought us sunshine and warmth, which makes us truly feel the wonderful friendship between the Chinese and Canadian peoples.

Ce jour imprévisiblement pluvial et de froid léger n'a pas empeché nos distingués invités de venir assister à la réception organisée par l'Ambassade de Chine au Canada, pour célébrer le 69ème anniversaire de la fondation de la République populaire de Chine. Mon épouse et moi, ainsi que mes collaborateurs de  l'Ambassade y sommes très sensibles, et tenons à vous en remercier. Malgré cette fraîcheur automnale dans la pluie, votre présence nous apporte le soleil et la chaleur, et témoigne les beaux sentiments d'amitié qui existent toujours entre nos deux peuples.

Chers amis,

2018 is the first year for China to implement the strategic planning made at the 19th CPC National Congress, which mapped out China's  development in the following 30-odd years by adopting a two-step approach, that is, taking two periods each spanning 15 years to build China into a great modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious, and beautiful.

At present, the Chinese government and people are vigorously pushing forward supply-side structural reform, accelerating the implementation of the innovation-driven development strategy, the coordinated regional development strategy and the rural vitalization strategy. At the same time, we are focusing on major risks prevention and solution, and targeting poverty alleviation and pollution control.

Though faced with a severe external economic environment, the Chinese economy, relying on consumption, service industry and domestic demand, has achieved a year-on-year growth of 6.8% in the first half of this year, and created more than 7.5 million new jobs in urban area. We are fully confident that we will realize the goal of an annual growth of around 6.5%.

L'année 2018 marque le 40ème anniversaire de la réforme et de l'ouverture de la Chine. Elle constitue ainsi un nouveau point de départ pour la Chine de continuer avec fermeté à approfondir la réforme et à élargir son ouverture sur le monde extérieur. A l'occasion du Forum de Boao pour l'Asie en avril de cette année, le Président chinois Xi Jinping a annoncé de grandes mesures qui visent à faciliter largement l'accès au marché, à créer un environnement d'investissement plus attrayant, à renforcer la protection des droits de propriété intellectuelle, et à prendre l'initiative d'accroître les importations.

Suit à la première Exposition Internationale d'Importation de la Chine qui se tiendra à Shanghai au mois de novembre, le grand marché chinois avec une population d'un milliard 400 millions d'habitants ouvrira sa porte encore plus grande aux pays du monde entier.

The year of 2018 also sees a turbulent world with the re-emergence of hegemonism and power politics, as well as the rampant rising of protectionism and unilateralism. China sides and works together with the majority of the countries in the world to safeguard the post-war international order with the UN as the core and the multilateral trading system centered in WTO.

China has been making proposals and contributions to improve global governance, build an open global economy, and establish a new type of international relations. The Belt and Road Initiative has made new progress, and the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind has won broad support around the world.

And the year of 2018 witnesses the continuous and steady development of China-Canada relations. The two countries have frequent exchanges at all levels and in various fields.

In the first half of this year, the trade volume between China and Canada amounted to 29 billion US dollars, among which China's exports to Canada increased by 18% while its imports from Canada increased by nearly 30%. China remains Canada's second largest trading partner for many years in a row.

Cette année de 2018 est aussi l'Année du Tourisme Chine-Canada. De Janvier à mai, le nombre des touristes chinois au Canada atteint 227 mille, et a augmenté de 15% par rapport à la même période de l'année dernière. Pendant la première moitié de l'année, presque 38 mille étudiants chinois viennent au Canada, ce qui fait le nombre total des étudiants chinois au Canada monter à 200 mille.

Les deux pays non seulement voient leurs coopérations locales porter des fruits, mais aussi établissent un consensus général dans les affaires internationales. Nous avons la bonne vonlonté de déployer des efforts conjoints avec le Canada pour promouvoir davantage le développement des relations de nos deux pays et de leurs coopérations dans tous les domaines.
