On January 6, 2010, "Carnival China Style" Evening Gala presented the audience with an audio-visual feast in Centrepointe Theartre in Ottawa.

The evening was organized by the Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese (FROC) in partnership with China Broadcast Art Troupe (CBAT), the Federation of Ottawa Chinese Canadian Organizations and Blue Sky Media Inc..

Mr. Xu Bu, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Canada and Mme Zhu Yongfeng, Minister Counselor Zhang Weicai attended the show.

Also present were Chen Mai, Minister of FROC, Zhang Xihe, Chief of CBAT, His Worship Larry O'Brien, Mayor of Ottawa, His Worship Frank Kinsella, Mayor of Leeds and the Thousand Islands, His Worship Dennis Staples, Mayor of Smiths Falls, Mr. Pierre Poilievre, M.P., Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr. Paul Dewar, M.P., New Democrat Foreign Affairs Critic, Mr. Phil McNeely, MPP for Ottawa-Orleans, Mme Gabrielle Blais, Director General of Canadian Heritage, Mr. Michael Chambers, President of the Canadian Olympic Committee and around 1000 representatives from commercial, cultural, educational organizations and overseas Chinese community in Canada.

  The gala received congratulatory letters from the Right Honorable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, the Right Honorable Steven Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, Hon. Dalton McGuinty, Premier of Ontario, Mayor Larry O'Brien and His Excellency Lan Lijun, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Canada.

The Governor General greeted all those marking the Year of the Tiger and hoped that Chinese-Canadians can look forward to the opportunities that will transpire in the coming year, thus bringing prosperity to the community and to Canada as a whole. Prime Minister Harper said, 'This evening's spectacular display of the performing arts by the Chinese National Art Troupe ushers in the New Year with style. It also celebrates Sino-Canadian ties, in the year marking the 40th anniversary of Canada establishing diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China.' Ambassador Lan believed that 'the show kicks off a series of grand celebrations of the 40th anniversary of China-Canada diplomatic ties in 2010' and that 'the two countries' relations will be further strengthened by more high-level exchanges in this year'.

At the pre-show reception, Mr. Xu Bu, on behalf of the Embassy, wished all the guests and friends a wonderful night and an even better new year. He expressed appreciation to all those that had made this show possible. Mr. Xu noted that Mr. Harper's successful visit to China in 2009 made last year an important one in China-Canada relations. With concerted efforts from both sides, China-Canada ties will continue to strengthen. Canadian guests extended their congratulations to the evening. Through Carnival China Style, they witnessed the profound wisdom of the Chinese culture and Chinese people's cordiality towards the Canadian people.

The two-hour long gala was a fine mixture of different ethnic arts including the Han, Uyghur, Mongolian, Miao and Yi people. The Chinese-style songs, dances, acrobatics and calligraphy showcased the latest achievements of Chinese performing arts. The show amazed the audience and won high praise.

After the show, Mr. and Mrs. Xu Bu, Mr. Zhang Weicai and the other distinguished guests had photos taken with the performers.
