Ottawa, January 26th--Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee met here today with Matt DeCourcey, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada. Both sides exchanged views on China-Canada relations and international and regional issues of common concern.

Song introduced the information of the 19th CPC National Congress and spoke positively about China-Canada relations. He noted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Canada 48 years ago, bilateral relations have made substantial progress under the joint efforts of the two sides. China is willing to, together with Canada, well implement the important consensus reached by leaders of both countries, intensify exchanges at high level and across all levels, deepen practical cooperation, reinforce party-to-party exchanges, expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges, promote understanding and friendship between the two peoples and maintain communication and coordination in major international and regional issues so as to push China-Canada strategic partnership for constant, sound and stable development.

DeCourcey expressed that as the development of Canada-China relations faces rare opportunities, Canada is willing to continuously deepen exchanges and cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, political parties, science and education, tourism as well as people-to-people and cultural engagement with China on the basis of mutual benefit and win-win results. Canada values the important role China plays in international affairs and is ready to strengthen communication and coordination to send more positive signals to the international community.
