Chinese Embassy in Canada Hosted 2026 New Year’s Reception

On December 19, 2025, the Chinese Embassy in Canada hosted 2026 New Year’s reception. Over 300 attendees were present, including the Honourable Senator Clément Gignac, the Honourable former Senator Victor Oh, and representatives from various sectors of Canada, Chinese diaspora, Chinese companies and Chinese students.

Ambassador Wang Di thanked friends from all sectors for their support for China-Canada relations. He highlighted that the historic meeting between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Mark Carney in 2025 opened a new chapter in bilateral ties between China and Canada, and the two sides have accomplished many things that were done for the first time in the past many years. In the New Year, China stands ready to work with Canada for the stable and sustained development of the China-Canada strategic partnership.

Victor Oh noted that Canada and China share a long history of friendship and he looks forward to deeper practical cooperation between the two countries. Senator Gignac stressed that the Canadian Parliament supports the Canadian Government’s recalibration of relations with China and efforts to enhance mutual trust. Representatives of Chinese diaspora and Chinese students reaffirmed their commitment to serving as bridges for advancing Canada-China friendship.

The reception was held in a lively and friendly atmosphere. Attendees highly commended China’s development achievements and expressed their hope for renewed vitality in China-Canada relations.
