On April 20, 2026, Chinese Ambassador to Canada H.E. Wang Di and Canada’s Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Hon. Heath McDonald held a Fireside Dialogue, with the theme of “China and Canada in a New Chapter”. The dialogue was spearheaded by the Canadian Meat Council and jointly hosted by six major trade associations representing the meat, pork, canola, pulse, cattle, and fishery industries. More than sixty representatives from these associations and businesses attended the event.

Ambassador Wang said that during Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's visit to China, the two sides agreed to build a new strategic partnership between China and Canada. There are broad prospects for cooperation in areas such as agricultural products. China stands ready to work with Canada to implement China-Canada Economic and Trade Cooperation Roadmap and the Preliminary Joint Arrangement, continuously lengthen the cooperation list, deepen pragmatic economic and trade cooperation, and promote steady and long-term development of bilateral relations.

Minister McDonald highly praised the solid foundation and great potential for agricultural trade cooperation between the two countries, and expressed Canada's willingness to work with China to maintain the positive momentum, enhance mutual understanding and trust, and strengthen pragmatic cooperation within the framework of the new strategic partnership.
