On April 30, 2026, H.E. Wang Di, Chinese Ambassador to Canada, conducted an exclusive interview with the Globe and Mail, Canada’s largest English newspaper, taking questions on the China-Canada relationship and the Taiwan question.

Ambassador Wang emphasized that during Prime Minister Mark Carney's visit to China, the two sides agreed to forge a new strategic partnership, advance practical economic and trade cooperation, and work together to properly address bilateral economic and trade concerns. He noted that both sides are now earnestly implementing the consensus reached by their leaders and have already made significant progress. Underscoring the Chinese government's consistent stance, he expressed strong support for mutually beneficial cooperation between enterprises of both countries based on market principles. Furthermore, he urged the Canadian government to provide a fair, just and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese companies.

Addressing the Taiwan question, Ambassador Wang stressed that the Taiwan question is a red line that must not be crossed,since it lies at the very core of China's core interests and serves as a crucial political foundation for China-Canada relations. He pointed out that Prime Minister Carney repeatedly reaffirmed Canada's commitment to the one-China policy during his visit to China. He therefore called on the Canadian government to strictly adhere to its one-China commitment.
