In order to promote the further development of Table Tennis in Canada and to enrich the cultural life in Ottawa during winter time, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China and Table Tennis Canada jointly initiate the second Ambassador's Cup Table Tennis Tournament, which is scheduled on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at the Ottawa City Hall. The Competition will be organized jointly by the Ottawa Association of Chinese Canadian Alumni and the Geng Table Tennis Academy. China Huaxin Energy Ltd. will be the exclusive sponsor of this competition.

On the day of the competition, Chinese Ambassador Luo Zhaohui and the Chief Executive Director of Table Tennis Canada will present the awards. Former Chinese World Champion Geng Lijuan will participate in an exciting demo match.

Pertinent information is as follows:

I. Time: From 9 am to 5 pm on January 10, 2016

II. Venue: Jean Pigott Place, Ottawa City Hall，110 Laurier Avenue West，Ottawa, Ontario, K1P 1J1)

III. Format:

This competition is divided in two categories, the Open event and the Junior event; each of the events consists of two pools - Pool A and Pool B. Pool A of the Open Event is suitable for the experienced and well-trained players who have at least 1000 Canadian Rating, whereas Pool B is for the participants who have less than 1000 rating. Pool A of the Junior Event is suitable for young players with at least 500 rating, whereas Pool B is for young players who have less than 500 rating.

IV. Schedule:

1. The first round of each event consists of 3 to 4 players in each group; the top two of each group will advance to the main draw, while the other two will join in the consolation draw.

2. Both main draw and consolation draw are single knock out.

3. Each match is played in best of five games of 11 points based on International Table Tennis Federation rules. The ball will be three star 40mm+ white.

4. Participants should arrive at least 5 minutes early for the competition. If the participants cannot show up within 15 minutes of the start time indicated on the schedule, they will lose the match.

V. Awards

The top three players in each pool will be awarded.

1. For Pool A of the Open Event, the first place will receive a trophy, $400 and a medal, the second place will receive $150 and a medal and the third place will receive $50 and a medal.

2. For Pool B of the Open Event, the first place will receive a trophy, $200 and a medal, the second place will receive $100 and a medal and the third place will receive $25 and a medal.

3. For Pool A of the Junior Event, the first place will receive a trophy, $200 and a medal, the second place will receive $100 and a medal and the third place will receive $50 and a medal.

4. For Pool B of the Junior Event, the first place will receive a trophy, $100 and a medal, the second place will receive $50 and a medal and the third place will receive $25 and a medal.

All participants will receive a small souvenir.
