Remarks by Spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in Canada in Response to the Erroneous Statement on Hong Kong by Relevant Canadian Authorities

On 26 July, relevant Canadian authorities made blatant and unjustified slanders against the law enforcement actions by the Hong Kong Police of issuing wanted notices for anti-China troublemakers aimed at destabilizing Hong Kong, deliberately smeared the Law on Safeguarding National Security in Hong Kong, and grossly interfered in Hong Kong’s affairs and China’s internal affairs. China strongly deplores and firmly opposes this.

The nineteen anti-China troublemakers destabilizing Hong Kong listed as wanted this time, including Yuan Gongyi,  initiated the so-called “Hong Kong Parliament” illegal election activities with the aim of subverting state power. Their egregious behaviour is a serious violation of the Hong Kong National Security Law, a serious challenge to the bottom line of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle, and a serious danger to China’s national sovereignty, security and development interests. The issuance of wanted notices for these anti-China troublemakers by the Hong Kong Police in accordance with the law is a move of justice to uphold the rule of law in Hong Kong, a measure of necessity to safeguard the sovereignty and security of the State, and a step on solid grounds to ensure the long-term stability and security of Hong Kong. It is in line with international law and common international practices, and is beyond reproach. The allegation of  “transnational suppression” is pure fabrication.

Since the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law, the Hong Kong society has regained stability, the public have been able to enjoy a peaceful life again, and the economic development has returned to the right track. This fully proves that the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law has provided a solid protection for Hong Kong’s long-term peace and stability and for the stability and advancement of “One Country, Two Systems”.

Hong Kong’s affairs are purely China’s internal affairs and brook no external interference. China urges the Canadian side to respect China’s sovereignty and the rule of law in the Hong Kong SAR, and to immediately stop interfering in Hong Kong’s affairs and China's internal affairs.
