Chinese Embassy Spokesperson’s Response to Media Question Regarding the Erroneous Statement on Hong Kong by the G7 members And Others

Question from the media: On August 8, members of the G7 Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) (including G7 countries and the EU) as well as G7 RRM associate members (Australia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden) issued a statement that condemns the arrest warrants issued by the Hong Kong Police on July 25 and describes such actions as “transnational repression.” What is China’s comment?

Response: G7 members and certain Western countries and organization made blatant and unjustified slanders against the law enforcement actions by the Hong Kong Police of issuing wanted notices for anti-China troublemakers aimed at destabilizing Hong Kong, and grossly interfered in Hong Kong’s affairs and China’s internal affairs. China strongly deplores and firmly opposes this.

Hong Kong’s affairs are purely China’s internal affairs and brook no external interference. The issuance of wanted notices for those anti-China troublemakers by the Hong Kong Police in accordance with the law is a move of justice to uphold the rule of law in Hong Kong, a measure of necessity to safeguard the sovereignty and security of the State, and a step on solid grounds to ensure the long-term stability and security of Hong Kong. It is in line with international law and common international practices, and is beyond reproach. The allegation of “transnational suppression” is pure fabrication.

China urges relevant countries and organizations to respect China’s sovereignty and the rule of law in the Hong Kong SAR, and to immediately stop interfering in Hong Kong’s affairs and China’s internal affairs.
