On October 7, 2025, Chinese Ambassador to Canada H.E. Wang Di met with Marie-Eve Sylvestre, President and  Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ottawa.

Ambassador Wang congratulated Ms. Sylvester on her appointment as the new president of the University of Ottawa. He stated that the University of Ottawa has long been a leader in cooperation with China among Canadian universities, achieving fruitful results in areas such as joint programs, scientific research, and faculty and student exchanges. China supports its universities in strengthening exchanges and cooperation with their Canadian counterparts, including the University of Ottawa, to continuously add new impetus to promoting educational and people-to-people exchanges between China and Canada.

Ms. Sylvester said that the University of Ottawa has attached great importance to cooperation with China and the long engagement has yielded significant achievements. The university looks forward to further deepening exchanges with Chinese partners to contribute to enhancing understanding and friendship between the two peoples and promoting the development of bilateral relations.
