From December 2 to 3, the Chinese Embassy in Canada and the Canada-China Legislative Association (CCLA) co-hosted a photo exhibition in the Senate of Canada Building to celebrate the 55th anniversary of China–Canada diplomatic relations and the 20th anniversary of their strategic partnership. Ambassador Wang Di, CCLA Co-Chairs Senator Clément Gignac and MP Zoe Royer, as well as around 20 senators and MPs attended the event. The delegation led by Mr. Shi Yaobin, Vice Chair of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress(NPC) of China, and Chair of the China-Canada Legislative Association of the NPC, also participated in the event during their visit to Canada for the 25th meeting of the inter-parliamentary exchange mechanism between the two countries.

Ambassador Wang Di said that the recent meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has opened a new chapter in China–Canada relations. China stands ready to work with Canada to implement the important consensus reached by the two leaders, draw strength and wisdom from the historical experience of bilateral relations, and enhance exchanges and cooperation across all fields, including the legislative bodies, so as to create an even brighter future for China–Canada cooperation.
Mr. Shi Yaobin said that China–Canada relations enjoy broad public support and a solid social foundation, and that friendship between the two countries reflects the will of the people and the trend of the times. The NPC of China is willing to work together with the Canadian Parliament to advance the implementation of the important consensus reached by the two leaders and inject impetus into achieving new accomplishment in the China–Canada strategic partnership. He also welcomed more friends from the Canadian Parliament to visit China.
Senator Gignac and MP Royer spoke highly of China–Canada relations, and highlighted it was encouraging to see the historic meeting between Prime Minister Carney and President Xi Jinping. They noted that the Canadian Parliament supports the Canadian Government’s recalibration of its approach to China and looks forward to strengthening exchanges and cooperation between the two sides to further advance bilateral relations.

This photo exhibition is one of a series of events hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Canada to mark the 55th anniversary of China–Canada diplomatic relations and the 20th anniversary of their strategic partnership. Through 30 valuable historical photographs, it provides a panoramic display of the fruitful achievements in high-level exchanges, practical cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges since the establishment of diplomatic ties. Many Canadian Senators and MPs stopped by to view the photos and share stories of the China–Canada friendship.
