After a 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit Lushan County of Sichuan Province in Southwest China on April 20, 2013, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Foreign Minister John Baird, Minister of International Cooperation Julian Fantino, the leader of the Liberal Party of Canada Justin Trudeau and many other federal, provincial and local officials have expressed condolences and sympathies to the Chinese people. The Chinese communities in Canada have also provided generous support to those affected by the earthquake in various ways. On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Canada, I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the government and people of Canada, including the Chinese communities in Canada. Your support and assistance offered in times of need is another demonstration of the strong bond of friendship between the people of our two countries, which we will remember and highly appreciate.
At present, the Chinese Government is focusing on the rescue and relief work in the earthquake-stricken areas. We are optimistic that people there will be able to overcome difficulties and rebuild their homeland soon with the resolve and solidarity of all the Chinese people and continued support of the international community.
