Applications are now open for the 19th Chinese Bridge – Chinese Proficiency Preliminary Competition for Secondary School Students in Ottawa and Nova Scotia, Canada. Please see the details below:

1. Date &Venue

    Date: May 20, 2026

    Time: 17:00-19:00pm  

    Venue: 515 St.Patrick St, Ottawa (students from Nova Scotia can attend online)

2. Theme: Fly high with Chinese

3. Contestant Requirements

Secondary school students aged 12 to 18 who hold Canadian nationality, have grown up outside China, and whose native language—as well as that of their parents—is not Chinese.

4. Competition Content and Format

(1)Competition Content

    I. Chinese Language Proficiency

    Assessment of contestants’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Chinese, as well as their ability to use the language in real-life contexts.

    II. Chinese Cultural Skills

    Includes performances or demonstrations such as Chinese songs and dances, traditional musical instruments, calligraphy, painting, martial arts, etc.

(2)Competition Format

    I. Themed Speech

    A 3–5 minute speech based on the designated theme.

    II. Talent Show (Optional)

    An optional 3–5 minute talent performance.

5. Awards

    The competition will present the following awards:

    1 First Prize

    2 Second Prizes

    3 Third Prizes

    All other participants will receive Merit Awards.
